Hello my name is David Cao and I am a blue belt under Marcelo Olvira. I started training in Jiu-Jitsu because I felt as if something was missing out of my life, and now that I have found Jiu-Jitsu I cannot imagine life without it. Jiu-Jitsu has improved my life in more ways than I can even remember. When I started Jiu-Jitsu I was a whopping 280 pounds. I wasn’t happy with the way I looked or felt about myself. I stand now at 195 pounds and look and feel amazing. My self-esteem and confidence increase with every training session that I go through. I now have technique and skill that I never thought I would have, and I owe it all to Jiu-Jitsu and Marcelo.

I have trained with other instructors in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but, none of them could give me the tools that Marcelo gave me! My story with Marcelo is unique, I am his first student in the United States. I started training with him before he could speak English. The magical part was that we both understood each other. His motto was "Step By Step Vincente" and that's how I learned Jiu-Jitsu step by step. At white belt Marcelo had me sparring with and tapping Judo Blackbelts, I tapped a Jiu-Jitsu Blackbelt and a guy who claimed to be a Sambo Champion. Marcelo and I trained just about everywhere, we trained in backyards, we trained in churches, we trained in his apartment, and we trained in a college gym for a least a year. After 3 years of training with Marcelo I received my Blue Belt, it was then and to this day an honor! I am very proud of Marcelo, no matter how hard it got for him and Renata he never ever gave up on his dream! Marcelo Olivera thank you for sharing with me your passion and your soul!
